{"id":7172,"date":"2022-03-08T11:30:14","date_gmt":"2022-03-08T16:30:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fitnesscfgyms.com\/clermontfl\/?p=7172"},"modified":"2022-03-08T11:30:14","modified_gmt":"2022-03-08T16:30:14","slug":"healthy-inspiration-for-the-love-of-dance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fitnesscfgyms.com\/clermontfl\/blog\/news\/healthy-inspiration-for-the-love-of-dance\/","title":{"rendered":"Healthy Inspiration For The Love of Dance"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 class=\"p1\">Zumba has brought great joy, health, mental clarity to Leo Ramirez\u2019 life, and he delights in teaching his moves to others.<\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Photo: Nicole Hamel<\/b><\/p>\n<p>W<span class=\"s1\">hen Leo Ramirez thinks about his native land of Puerto Rico, his mind and heart are immediately flooded with warm memories of beautiful landscapes, family, and an activity that fills him with inspiration, passion, and pure joy \u2013 dancing. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">To pursue his dreams of a career in dance, however, Leo knew he had to leave home, so in 2008, he packed his bags and came to Florida in hopes of finding a job with Disney. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Little did he know that the move would lead him to and even happier place on earth, which as it turns out for Leo, is Zumba, a fitness program that combines cardio and Latin-inspired dance, founded by Colombian dancer and choreographer Alberto \u201cBeto\u201d P\u00e9rez in 2001.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIn Puerto Rico, I was used to getting together with friends, creating routines,\u00a0<\/span>competing in talent shows, and dancing for the love of the arts, where here, it\u2019s more about finding a job that will pay you to do what you love,\u201d Leo says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">After auditioning, Leo was hired as character performer with Disney. He had the opportunity to be a stilt walker in the Festival of the Lion King Show at Animal Kingdom, his dream job, but the grueling intensity and extreme demands that went along with it, took a toll on his mental health.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">That was in 2011, and feeling down, Leo decided to try a Zumba class.<\/p>\n<div class=\"g g-5\">\n<div class=\"g-dyn a-75 c-3\"><a class=\"gofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.plasticsurgeryvip.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-track=\"NzUsNSwxLDYw\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyloaded\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lakeandsumterstyle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/0222-VIP-500px.jpg\" width=\"0\" height=\"0\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.lakeandsumterstyle.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/0222-VIP-500px.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cI was like, \u2018I love this, this is my music, the rhythms I grew up with,\u2019 and it made me feel like I was back in Puerto Rico dancing with my friends,\u201d Leo says, adding the very next day, he inquired about getting certified to become an instructor, the beginning of a year-long journey learning how to best teach Zumba to others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cI learned how to balance creating routines that are easy for most students\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s3\">to follow, and getting them to feel like they are the dancers, not me, but challenging enough for others with more experience, and as soon as I learned that, I felt the magic,\u201d Leo says. \u201cPeople come to my class to dance and sweat, and they are happy. They\u2019re jumping, they\u2019re smiling, they\u2019re feeling less stressed, confident, and getting healthier.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Leo says stories of people with health conditions able to stop certain medications after consistently taking his classes mean the world to him. He also loves the diversity of people, young and old, and of every culture, race, and gender, who show up every week for his classes at Fitness CF in Clermont.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201cIt\u2019s the way the world should be.
