5 Easy Habits to Help You Lose Weight
50% of people are trying several ways to lose weight, while some are successful, others are not as they continue their weight loss journey. When it comes to losing weight, it takes a combination of things like functional fitness and strength training to achieve the desired results.
If you’re having trouble getting to the gym for a workout, we’ve got some useful tips that will help you kick off your weight loss journey. Once you scroll through this post, you’re going to be racing to your nearest fitness center to join in on the group classes they have to offer.
1. Don’t Give in to Cheat Meals
We’ve all heard about a cheat meal once or twice in our lives when we’re working to lose weight. It’s the meal you get to indulge in after the challenging work you’ve put into working out and losing weight through personal training.
The problem with having a cheat meal is people don’t typically stop at a meal, it becomes an entire day or weekend. Before you know it, you’ve gained back some of the weight you worked for weeks or months to shed.
We recommend that you not give in to these meals by maintaining a balanced diet. It’s not about cutting out everything you enjoy, simply being more mindful of the choices you make, and eating in moderation.
For example, if you enjoy cheeseburgers, there are ways to cut down on some of the calories you’re eating. Try adding tons of vegetables to your burger and using lettuce as a bun instead of bread.
2. Put the Fork Down
When’s the last time you stopped to enjoy the food you’re chewing before putting another bite in your mouth? It has been proven that it takes your body a while before it registers that it’s full and to stop eating.
Because of this, it’s easy for people to overeat, consuming more calories than they need to in a single meal. Instead of loading your fork with your next bite, slow down and put the fork down.
This increases the chances that your body will register its full sooner rather than later. When you put your fork down, you’re taking more time to chew your food, reducing the likelihood of digestion problems that stem from not fully chewing your food.
If you want to go a step further, you can take a few sips of your drink in between bites. This also helps your body to register when it’s full before you overeat.
Besides, when you put your fork down in between bites, you’re giving your body a chance to truly indulge in the flavors of the food you’re eating.
3. Don’t Eat in Front of the TV
It’s common for us to grab our food and sit in front of the TV while we eat. While you’re getting the entertainment you want, you’re also consuming a massive number of calories without thinking about it.
As you sit in front of the tv you end up consuming junk food that you shouldn’t eat. This means endless binging, not to mention you’re going to get hungrier quicker than you would if you weren’t in front of the tv.
This happens because all your focus is on what you’re watching, and not on achieving satisfaction from your food. Because of this, you get hungry quicker even if you’d eaten the hour before.
4. Drink More Water
45-75% of the human body is made of water. You need water to ensure your organs are functioning properly and to stay hydrated throughout the day.
Drinking water can also help you lose weight without having to think about it. When you don’t consume enough water, your body goes through the process of storing more carbs than it normally would if you were hydrated.
The carbs that are stored in the body are then converted into energy for the body. You should also do your best to drink water before you eat anything.
This will increase the amount of water in your body, reducing the chances of your body storing unnecessary carbs. Another reason to drink more water is that there are times when you assume your body is telling you it’s hungry, when in fact it’s in need of some sort of hydration.
5. Prepare Meals Ahead of Time
When you’re on the go or coming home after a long day at work, the last thing on your mind is standing in the kitchen cooking dinner. Take time to prepare meals ahead of time, including lunch and dinner.
This way you’ve got more control over what you’re eating, instead of making a quick decision and ending up in the drive-thru line of a fast-food restaurant. You’ll also find that you save more money when you meal prep, and you can provide your body with the nutrients and vitamins it needs to thrive and promote weight loss.
Also, you’re putting things into your body that will help give you the energy to work out instead of fatty foods that don’t do these things.
