9 Weight Loss Tips That Make a Big Difference

weight loss tips

There are ways to lose weight that don’t involve dangerously starving yourself or going to the gym for hours on end every single day. The entire point of getting healthy is changing your lifestyle one habit at a time until you are happy with the person that you are becoming.

Don’t fall into the “fad diet” trap. These diets don’t work in the long run because they only work while you are following them. And don’t think that lifting weights will make you look bulky (or too masculine, ladies!) because it is an excellent way to tone and define your muscles.

Continue reading for some great weight loss tips that actually work for getting rid of fat.

1. Stay Hydrated!

Drinking enough water every day can boost your metabolism by up to 30%, and it can help you burn more calories! Thirst can often present itself as hunger. So, drinking a glass (or two) of water before a meal can help you feel fuller while eating less food.

Not only is drinking enough water good for your overall health, but it also helps to flush toxins from your body.

2. Get Enough Sleep

Not getting enough sleep every night can activate the hormone (ghrelin) that tells your brain that you are hungry. This causes us to crave foods that have a higher caloric value.

It’s even possible that your lack of sleep is spurring your emotional binge eating which can cause you to make poorer decisions. Getting enough sleep allows us to make decisions using logic rather than emotion.

3. Switch Up Your Workouts…

Get a gym membership at a gym that will meet you where you are at and help you to improve your overall health.

Cardio gets a bad rep because it’s not the ideal workout for toning muscle and it’s kind of boring to go on a run or walk on a treadmill every day. Switching up your workouts can be just what you need to get a well-rounded fitness routine going.

When you are changing your lifestyle and trying to lose weight, you may deal with the loss of muscle. Lifting weights is great for toning your body. In fact, any type of resistance training can help you to rebuild muscle.

4. But Don’t Write Off Cardio!

Getting your heart rate up with a cardio workout is good for you and helps to improve your overall heart health. Doing cardio is a great way to burn some calories and help you lift some of the mental stuff holding you back from achieving your health goals. Aerobic exercise is also effective in helping you lose some of that stubborn belly fat.

5. Deal With Your Food Addiction

Let’s face it. If you are struggling with your weight, there’s a chance that your diet is the culprit. You have to work through any food issues before you move on to bigger and better things. Whether your problem is eating too much sugar or compulsively eating through your emotions, it will only continue to happen until you do something about it.

So, keep a journal, go to therapy, and heal from your past trauma. Then, get ready to slay this lifestyle change.

6. Accountability & Meal Prep

Once you work through your problem with food, you need to stay accountable. Keep a record of what you are eating and how much of it you consume. Being aware of what you are eating can help you to work towards nourishing your body with better foods.

You might also consider preparing the meals that you will eat through the week beforehand. You can make simple meals and freeze them until it’s time to eat them. Or you can cut up your meats and veggies and seal them in air-tight containers (storing them in the fridge) until you need them.

With this out of the way, cooking a meal won’t seem like such an enormous task where snacking seems more desirable.

7. Eat More “Healthy” Foods

It’s not about dieting. It’s about eating foods that benefit your body rather than cause you to feel sluggish and have low energy. Adding more proteins, fruits, and veggies to your diet can help to improve all of these issues.

Also, avoid buying sugary, processed snacks on grocery day. Stock up on healthy snacks (like fruit, nuts, hard-boiled eggs, and yogurt) that will make you feel good and satisfy your cravings throughout the day.

8. Limit Processed Foods

By limiting processed food, you are teaching your body to get sustenance from natural foods that make you feel great!

Processed food with added sugar is a problem in today’s society. Just reading the label is enough to tell you that there are additives in your favorite snack food.

Leave the liquid calories at the store. Filling up on sugary sodas and juices causes you to prematurely meet your caloric intake goals for the day without feeling satisfied.

9. Start Where You Are

There’s no better time like the present to get moving. The first step can be something small, like eating an apple rather than reaching for a bag of chips. Then, move on to making healthy meals or taking the stairs rather than waiting for the elevator. Do 10 minutes of yoga every morning to start the day off right.

Don’t wait around for the right time to start taking care of yourself because, honestly, that time is now.
